The Sentier des Ancêtres invites you to take a different approach to hiking. Here, the landscape is not imposed by its height or scale, but by what it contains.
The route crosses vegetated areas featuring several of Moorea’s marae, ancient gathering and social organization sites. These sites are not staged: they are integrated into their environment, sometimes discreet, almost silent.
Naturally, the walk becomes more relaxed. Each stop helps us understand the role of marae in traditional Polynesian society: spaces for decision-making, transmission and spirituality.
